How to Decorate a Christmas Tablescape

How to Decorate a Christmas Tablescape

If you are hosting this Christmas, and dreaming of creating the perfect tablescape, then the Laura James Christmas collection has plenty of options to make your festive décor stand out. From ceramic tree decorations to frosted glass tea light holders and charming light up houses, we have a selection of beautiful pieces to bring the look together. Create an inviting Christmas tablescape whether you are hosting a big Christmas dinner for lots of family members or a cosy dinner for two, with our decorating tips.

Create Space

Firstly, consider the area where you and your guests will be dining for the big day. Do you have space for a large dining table in a dining room or perhaps you’ll be eating in an open plan kitchen living space. A larger table gives you more room for things like serving dishes or platters as well as festive decorations. If you have lots of guests, you may want to consider an extending dining table like our beautiful Amelia extending dining table that’s available in black, oak and whitewash and can seat up to 10 people when fully extended. For more intimate dining why not choose a round table like the elegant Levi black dining table and Freya dining chair set. The Levi is a chic black table crafted from acacia wood and comes with Freya armchairs in either luxurious green velvet or beautiful boucle, both will bring texture and a contemporary look to your dining room.

Choose Your Theme

When creating a tablescape it is the attention to detail that will captivate your guests. It may be tempting to dig out all the old Christmas decorations and want to use them all but think carefully about how you want your Christmas tablescape to look. Consider the space you have and choose colours that naturally complement each other.

If you like a traditional look for Christmas then our beautiful Sira ceramic trees are ideal. These contemporary ceramic trees come in a subtle deep red hue for a nod to a traditional Christmas look. The trees are available in small, medium and large or come as a set of 3. The red ceramic trees will blend well with a few touches of gold to carry through that traditional theme. Add in the Flivik tea light holder or the Herriard metal lantern and some gold cutlery to complete the look.

The Laura James Christmas collection features our white Bergen ceramic trees in different sizes, the Ulven star ornaments and star tea light holders. Plus, our little light up Brockley houses are perfect for creating a charming scene.

Place Settings & Festive Food

Creating a beautiful looking table for a decadent Christmas lunch is one thing, but there are a few practicalities to think about. Once you have chosen your festive theme you need to consider the basic lay out, who will be sitting where, think about table linen, decorative runners as well as Christmas place settings and elegant Christmas crackers. If you have a larger table, you may need a place for serving dishes or space to present your dinner guests with beautifully curated cheese boards, puddings, and mince pies. Our elegant serving boards include the rustic wooden Bosco board or the marble Grazeley board for a contemporary tablescape.

Décor Details

The festive season is the perfect time to unleash your creativity and create a beautiful Christmas dining table. Whether you enjoy having a go at Christmas craft ideas or simply love styling accessories then the art of tablescaping is a wonderful way to decorate beyond the Christmas tree.

To add a handmade element, create your own festive wreath as a focal point or handwritten place names for a personal touch. Our ceramic Sira and Bergen trees with glass Dalen tea light holders dotted along the centre of the table will create a subtle yet effective look. Try adding a string of fairy lights for a festive feel or a few sprigs of holly or pinecones for a natural rustic look. You could also use vases to display natural greenery or flowers but ensure that your guests are able to see each other during Christmas dinner.
